Jenna Ortega was never Johnny Depp's girl.
The Wednesday star shut down prior rumors that she and the Pirates of the Caribbean actor were in a serious relationship and that she "wanted everybody to leave us alone."
"I don't know that person," Jenna told BuzzFeed Celeb in an interview published Aug. 26. "It's so insane to me. I never spoke on that. I never said anything like that."
The 21-year-old also recalled a conversation with co-star Richard E. Grant while filming Death of a Unicorn, where he asked about what was going on between her and the 61-year-old. Jenna noted of the speculation, "I laughed because I don't know that person."
Speculation emerged in Aug. 2023 that Jenna and Johnny were seen out together, possibly working on the Beetlejuice sequel. However, the You actress also slammed the claims on her Instagram Stories shortly after.
"This is so ridiculous I can't even laugh," she wrote, per NME. "I have never met or worked with Johnny Depp in my life. Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone."
At the time, the Alice in Wonderland actor also denied the speculation about their romance and that he was even in the upcoming Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, with his spokesperson telling the publication, "Mr. Depp has no personal or professional relationship with Ms. Ortega whatsoever."
"He has never met her or spoken to her," the statement continued. "He is not involved in any project with her, nor does he intend to be. He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumors that are intended to harm his reputation and career."
Since then, Jenna—who plays the daughter of Lydia (Winona Ryder) in the new Beetlejuice sequel—has been tuning out the gossip and focusing on what really matters to her.
"It's been incredible," she told E! News of her time on set. "To be a part of something like Beetlejuice that has been so influential on me as a person and also so many people—it's too much to comprehend."
And she couldn't help but gush over her time working with Winona and Catherine O'Hara.
"I feel so lucky to be here and to have had that experience because they're giants in what they do," the X actress continued. "I learned so much from them. They're also just really sweet, funny people that I have such a good time when they're around."
